I just thought I would ask if there are any HMS Defiant film fans (Damn the Defiant USA). As a child I was hooked and ever since when ever shown on TV I make sure I see it though I now have the DVD. I recently managed to acquire the novel by Frank Tilsley from which the film is based thanks to the internet. I must admit I haven't read it all but the characters are there.

I like the film though find techicolour really irritating. Everything looks almost cartoonishly colourful and it makes it difficult to do any 'dark' story.

Yes, I agree, a bit garish, but then most the films were in those days as it being the latest 'thing', perhaps rather like computer generated images are today.

Anyway, that apart, I seem to remember the film has a good plot, set during the naval mutinies of 1797 and with some good acting performancies, from Dirk Bogarde, Alec Guinness and others. For me I think Guinness 'stole the show' as the stoical Captain Crawford.

Tina, thanks for mentioning it – it has reminded me to watch it again!
