Post subject:  St George's Day in Trafalgar Square

I'm not well versed in the hierarchy of saints, but I think poor old St George is fairly low in the batting averages. In fact, I think he has been dropped from the team entirely.

Nevertheless, today is St George's Day, and he is England's patron saint.

The day used to be barely noticed but in recent years there has been a trend towards celebrating with public events and today in Trafalgar Square there will be an English Food Festival. The wonderful Borough Market will be relocating there for the day. Foreigners may chortle at the juxtaposition of 'English Food' and 'Festival' but we know better, don't we?

There are Melton Mowbray Pork Pies, Morecombe Bay shrimps, Cornish oysters, Herdwick lamb, Westmorland sausages...yummm... (except for the oysters) etc. etc.

And Booth's flower stall will be selling red roses and oak leaves.
