While looking up something else, I came across this portrait of Captain George Blagdon Westcott who was killed at the battle of the Nile and to whose family Nelson subsequently handed over his own Nile medal since Captain Westcott's family had not received his. I have never seeen an image of him before.

I thought it might be interesting to start a thread on lesser-known portraits of officers who had a connection with Nelson or who served during the Napoleonic wars. I was looking for a portrait of Edward Thornborough Parker, Nelson's protegé, whose death so distressed him, but had no luck.

Here is John Pasco, as a rear admiral, whose portrait I have never seen in any book I've read about Nelson and Trafalgar.

Scroll down to see an image of him from 1805.

Here's a portrait of James Anthony Gardner, from whose 'Recollections' I have quoted on other threads. For a man with such a lively sense of humour he does look rather glum.

I came across this 'portrait of Horatia Nelson'. I don't recall having seen it before and there doesn't seem to be any provenance. Can anyone shed any light?

I've had a message from a visitor to the site saying that a member of the Nelson family is in possession of the original of this portrait (actually a miniature) and can confirm that it is indeed Horatia.

the image of John Pasco dated 1805 is from a minature I have in my possession, which was photographed and submitted on to the web many years ago and found its way into the Wikipedia site.
as John Pasco was my Gt.Gt.Grandfather I have many items that belonged to him in my possession.

Welcome to the forum, Warren! And many thanks for the background information to the portrait. Please feel free to add any information or images you'd like to share. Lucky you to have such a notable ancestor!
