I always like to tune into "Who Do You Think You Are?" on BBC1.

Last night the subject was Lord (Sebastian) Coe.

They showed a nice portrait of one of his ancestors, who served in the Navy during the Napoleonic Wars. His name Hyde John Clarke.

There didn't seem to be anything particularly noteworthy about his service but I had a quick look to see if he has an entry in O'Byrne and indeed he does.

It was back another couple of generations that things got somewhat "meatier". He had one ancestor who ran a sugar plantation in Jamaica. He seems to have been a right rogue - several illegitimate children - and lambasted in a couple of wills.

A slight tarnishing of Lord Coe's normally squeaky-clean image. :)
