You could be right there Mark but I have seen the suffix cion used before that period (1830's). A quick quote from one dictionary states "The Middle English -cion became -tion under the influence of the Middle French -tion and original Latin spellings."

The word "suspicion" seems to have escaped.

I will check my full OED when I get back home after another wonderful trip to Malta on the Sir Alexander John Ball trail and even meeting our own amazing crew member, Stephen Evans into the bargain.

I will stop there as the subject is supposed to be Sir Thomas Staines. :wink:
