I'm indebted to the sailing navies forum for this Pathe News clip about Lloyds of London, with a brief glimpse of the Nelson room:

Anna,

Thanks for that. I remember visiting the old Lloyd's building (for a ship reunion) and saw some of the interior – including the famous Lutine bell, rung whenever a ship was overdue. I don't think they do that any more. Both this, and I believe the original 1925 facade and other fittings, have been incorporated into the present building, which to me always looks like a cross between a gas works and an oil rig!

I'm afraid I have not seen the Nelson collection but, whilst on the subject, does anyone remember an old film about Lloyd's in which Nelson featured. I believe it was called 'Lloyd's of London', although I can't be sure. I saw it many years ago and it would be worth seeing again – although it's probably riddled with inaccuracies!

Worked at Lloyd's from 1964. what is refered to as the old Loyd's building was actually the new Lloyd's building built 1953, I think. The old Lloyd's building was on the site of what is now known as the 1986 building, the coffee pot, apt considering where Lloyd's started.
The Nelson Room was always a major attraction for visiting clients. I always enjoyed showing French and Spanish shipowners around the exhibits!!
Interesting to see the difference in Nelson's handwriting after he lost his arm.
I am sure that if an organised group contacted them they would allow/arrange a visit.
I am still battling for my "BRAVE NELSON".( PREVIOUS TOPIC)

A Forum get Together at Lloyds! That sounds attractive, though sadly, I'm fully occupied with family commtiments at the moment. Some time in the future maybe........?

Visited Lloyds today, was superb. Saw all the Nelson Collection on display which was impeccably laid out, plus the Adams Room where besides being a grand Georgian dining room, hang canvases of Nelson's great victories at the Nile, Copenhagen and Trafalgar. Huge 12ft high portrait of the great man as you enter onto that floor too, alongside large models of Victory. Well worth the trip.
