Post subject:  Plymouth Dockyard Disease

I am reading a biography (no naval interest) of an early 19th century woman in which one of her acquaintances, a young woman of 29, is said to have died of Plymouth Dockyard Disease. This was the name given to 'irritative fever' or septicaemia. A quick Google brought up the link below. Septicaemia must have been common in the days before antibiotics but the frequency of occurrence in the dockyard at the time seems to have induced panic.
