It was while I was Googling unsuccessfully to find the source (it certainly exists) of the remark Vicki mentioned regarding the artist who commented on the difficulty of capturing Nelson's expressions, such was the mobility of his face, that I came across this little snippet about memorial fabrics which bore prints of Nelson's funeral and naval exploits. Masses of commemorative china and other memorabilia were made but I was not aware of the existence of commemorative fabrics. I wonder how they were used? Nelson's funeral cortege printed on the dining room curtains might liven up (or not) conversation at table!

Anna,

Are you seriously thinking of doing that? Well, ok – we'd understand, but your dinner guests might not come again.

Something similar was done at the time of the bicentenary, when Nauticalia sold some furniture with Nelson motif coverings. Very nice, but I'm not sure my wife would have countenanced the idea – and the fabrics looked to be very, er, 'cat friendly'! :?

I assure you, Kester, that the windows and my dinner guests are safe! I doubt if I could afford these antique fabrics, even if they were available!
