Today, of course, marks the anniversary of the battle of Trafalgar when we honour the immortal memory of Admiral Lord Nelson and all who fell with him.

Every year on Trafalgar Day, there is a gathering aboard HMS Victory to mark the occasion. Here is a picture taken last year.

Anna,

Indeed. I am sure we will all be thinking of that historic day, and all those that died.

It would be good if the day were remembered in schools up and down the country, but somehow I doubt it. Are there any further moves to make Trafalgar Day a national holiday in the UK, or is that idea now defunct?

No National Trafalgar Day as yet, Kester. However, there is a move to place greater emphasis in history lessons on great events and great figures. If you Google 'Battle of Trafalgar teaching resources' you will find a great deal of informative teaching material at all levels, such as this:

How about this quiz for the tiny ones? A glass of grog and a maggoty cheese for the first correct answer. (Only kidding).
