I am sorry to report the following sad news: a few nights ago, burglars entered the family home of Anna Tribe, Nelson's direct descendant, and made off with a number of Nelson relics kept there. These included a bust, a portrait of Elizabeth Blandy ( married to Horace, Nelson's grandson), and other family treasures. The thieves might feel there is a ready market among Nelson enthusiasts for these items. Please be alert to this possibility. Ebay might be a site they might use also. We send our commiserations to Mrs Tribe with our hopes that the items might eventually be returned. |

How awful I hope they get caught. Although I personally doubt they'd use ebay, I'll keep a bit of an eye out and if anything suspect pops up, report it. |

Just to tell you a bit more. I received the information in a general e-mail from the 1805 Club, by way of her daughter who described the burglary. She also said that Anna is now in a nursing home, but whether this was as a result of the break-in she doesn't make clear. It seems as though it may be, which if true, is very, very, sad and criminal. Since Anna was a Life Vice President of both the 1805 Club and the Nelson Society, I am sure the officers of both organisations, if not all the members, are aware of this by now and will take the appropriate action. In passing, I would think that if the thieves are attempting to target the 1805 Club, Nelson Society members and others as prospective buyers, as has been suggested, then I would think that most would sensibly seek some sort of provenance for the items. |
