| Post subject: | Upcoming Auction of Nelson Letters |
Have just received notification of an upcoming sale on Tuesday 24th November at Dix Noonan & Webb auctioneers, of the John Goddard Collection of Naval Medals & Nelson letters. Amongst some 52 Naval General Service Medals, are two awarded to sailors with Nelson connections. The sale comprises 82 lots of medals and 7 lots of individual Nelson letters, the remaining lots of a total of 115 are books on various aspects of medal collecting and naval history including Nelson. There is an online catalogue on the auctioneers website. Phil |

The provenance in the DNW auction catalogue for this letter refers to the Sotheby's sale of the Alexander Davison collection in 2002 under lot 62. This auction also had a further letter penned by Emma to Alexander Davison (lot 80) following the death of Nelson. It's interesting that the DNW sale has a guide price listed at £12,000-£15,000. The Sotheby's auction for this eventually realised a price of £28,680 including buyers premium. Emma's Davison letter sold for £31,070. Phil |
