Post subject:  Lord Nelson Pub

Have just caught up 'N & His W' after a period of being AWOL. Been getting 'The Nelson Society UK' Facebook page off the ground (do have a look).
To update you further on the Lord Nelson pub at Burnham Thorpe, have spoken with the Greene king Operations Manager responsible for the pub. The Company is determined to re-open the pub and retain its Nelson heritage. As the pub has been leased for over 30 years, little modernisation has taken place and before it can be re-opened it must meet all various rules & regs for an establishment open to the public and serving food and drink e.g. fire safety, asbestos free, kitchens meeting health & safety standards, disabled access and so on. Obviously it will not be opening any time soon.
As for the memorabilia, unfortunately it had been handed on from tenant to tenant and did not belong to Greene King. Although it was a pretty low trick to pull by the last tenant, no law appears to have been broken (although the settles were old it is thought that they were not old enough for Nelson to have sat on them). Greene King offered to buy the items back from the miscreants but they obviously thought they could do better on EBay!
Once the pub is ready for re-opening The Nelson Society is on standby with a stack of pictures and other memorabilia and no doubt others will come forward to contribute. Will update once I have any further news.

Have just come across on Everard Cole's (estate agents in Cambridge), website, details for the sale of the Lord Nelson pub. From an article in the Fakenham news in January of this year, Greene King had put it in their hands to sell after giving up looking for a landlord. The sales price is circa 350K freehold and is currently under offer.

If sold, it will be interesting to see if the new owners intend to re-open as a pub/restaurant.

What else would that spot be good for? I can't imagine anything else but a pub or a restaurant there honestly.

The Lynn News website has just reported that the Lord Nelson pub has been bought by the Holkham Estate. They go on to say that the estate intends to refurbish and re-open it as a pub. Good news when you read of so many country pubs disappearing from communities.
