Post subject:  Sleuth appeal!

I've had a private message from a researcher asking if I can throw any light on the hammer price of an unpublished letter written by Nelson to Lady Hamilton in May 1805 telling her that he is 'busy victualling the fleet' and adding a postscript, 'Kiss dear Horatia for me'. The letter was sold by Mellors and Kirk of Nottingham in January.

Can any of the sleuths aboard please help?

Anna

I've had a trawl through Mellors & Kirks online catalogue but have been unable to find the letter in question.

The sale referred to, appears to have taken place on 23 March, the letter coming up for auction featured in several newspapers around the end of January.

The auction featured 21 lots of Nelson items including a collection of Davison papers relating to prize money etc but no lot number for the letter. Could this letter have been withdrawn from the sale? Has your researcher been in touch with the auctioneer direct? That would seem the quickest method to get the full story.

Regards

Phil

Many thanks for that, Phil. Direct contact with the auctioneer seems the way to go.
