Remembering today, Trafalgar Day, Admiral Lord Nelson and all who fell with him.

Another exciting discovery by Martin Downer:

Anna

It was interesting to read your link to the BBC site concerning Nelsons recently discovered sketch for his Trafalgar battle plan. I hope we can look forward to an article from Martin Downer in a future Nelson Dispatch, with further details of this find.

Reading this, prompted me to recall a similar rough sketch of Nelson's plan which featured in Colin White's 'The New Letters' published in 2005. This contains an illustration of this other sketch (illus:39a between pages 382-383) which was discovered in 2001. He goes on to say that it appears on the back of some hastily scribbled notes for a meeting, probably at the Navy Board sometime early in September 1805.

With items like this coming to light after 214 years, I wonder what else is out there to be discovered.

Martin Downer has published an interesting article in the latest edition of the Nelson Dispatch regarding the scrapbook containing the pencil sketch battle plan. A find on eBay apparently.

The scrapbook has now been purchased by the National Museum of the Royal Navy at Portsmouth.
