Looking for information on the Internet, I came upon this site, for lovely Nelson memorabilia.

I like Nelson’s writing chair replica best, unfortunately it is too expensive for me.

Phew! Steep prices! I think I'll save up for a cushion.

I wonder if the chair with two pockets which Nelson used as a 'inbox' and 'outbox' was a design in general use at time, or a design peculiar to the navy or made to Nelson's personal requirements.

I imagine the one made to Nelson's own personal requirements only had a pocket on the left hand side. I wonder whether that was the inbox or the outbox?

Perhaps he only paid half-price for it.

Sorry - couldn't resist :)

No reduction, I fear, Tony. His Lordship's chair had two side pockets.

I have spent a little while today picking nits, and I offer this choice sample for your delectation:

Day and night might be seen the admiral in his cabin, closely employed with his secretary over their interminable papers. They occupied two black leathern [sic] armchairs into the roomy pockets of which, Scott, weary of translating, would occasionally stuff away a score of unopened private letters found in prize ships, although the untiring activity of Nelson grudged leaving one such document unexamined.

From 'The Life of Alexander Scott, by his daughter, pub. 1842, Saunders and Otley, London.

Ah, cunning! - No doubt it was the right hand pocket in which Scott tried to hide the unopened letters.

I stand corrected.
