There is an interesting article in today's Sunday Times regarding the valuable data about climate conditions to be gleaned from the ships' logs of Nelson's day which are of great interest to scientists currently studying climate change. This is the link:

Dr Dennis Wheeler has worked on this for quite a number of years, previously as UK coordinator of the EU-funded CLIWOC project. One of his papers can be found here: http://www.meteohistory.org/2005history ... heeler.pdf
