Is there a connection between Lord Nelson and the Carshalton Cocktail?

Interesting reference.

I suppose we need to check on the people who knew Nelson at the times when he was at Merton and was likely to have fished there. The page mentions the periods when he was there - e.g., 'from October 1801 to April 1803, and from mid-August to mid-September 1805'.

I remember on another board a discussion on how Nelson could have fished a fly with only one arm, but the suggestion that 'dapping' was commonly used would supply the answer.

It certainly looks as if the Cocktail, or a dun imitation very like it, would have been used by Nelson. Perhaps Emma leaned to tie them for him, as tying flies is also impossible with only one arm!
