Today is the birthday of Her Majesty the Queen - an appropriate day to note the custom in the Royal Navy of drinking the Loyal Toast sitting down - see wiki link for the reason: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Loyal_toast I'm assuming that ashore, the toast is drunk standing up? The lawyers of Lincoln's Inn also drink the Loyal Toast sitting down - a reminder of an occasion when they were all too drunk to stand up! |
