Hello Kester,

Thank you for your reply. I can watch the wedding ceremony either on Dutch TV or BBC1. I think I will prefer to watch it on BBC.

According to BBC news, Prince William will be wearing the uniform of a Colonel in the Irish Guards. It is his most senior honorary appointment and will look rather grander than the uniform of a Flight Lieutenant which is the rank he has in the Royal Air Force, in which he is currently serving. He will have his RAF wings pinned on his sash but will leave his sword at home, apparently.

I wish the happy couple all the best for the future.

Well, that answered our earlier question! He indeed looked very smart as did Harry, now also a Captain in the Blues and Royals. Both wore spurs of course, but as the couple processed down the nave after the ceremony, it looked like William was trying not to get them tangled up with his bride's dress! I wonder if he'll be riding at Trooping the Colour? I thought it was a beautiful service and I especially liked the specially composed anthem, and the piece that they both had written.

I think too we are all grateful there was no 'incident' or unpleasantness – or at least none that I could see. The only thing that marred it for my mother-in-law was the fact that Sweden's Princess Victoria and Prince Daniel were nowhere to be seen! I believe they were on the guest list – even though they would have had to fly home early, as it is King Karl Gustav's Birthday tomorrow.

As for the missing sword, I don't know what the custom is about wearing them at such ceremonies. The other royal males wore them and it is part of the uniform, but perhaps it was thought that it would have gotten in the way! Harry didn't wear his either, but you'll probably have noticed that both wore the sword's hanger (I think that's what it's called!)

So now we know why the foreign honeymoon was canceled this weekend. Here's hoping nobody less privileged gets caught up in al Qaeda reprisals.

Last Monday I happened to be (don't ask!) in Westminster Abbey.

I was in the Henry VII chapel and talking to one of the attendants about Nelson's crest which is behind his seat as a member of the Order of the Bath.

The attendant kindly unhooked the barrier rope and said I could go through and take a closer look!

Then, can you believe it, he said "Why don't you try out the seat?"

Do you know it was so unexpected that it fazed me for a moment - and I actually politely declined his offer.

I think I am going to regret that in the future - in fact I think I am regretting it already!! :(

Mark! How could you pass up such a chance??!!

Here's a link (scroll a good way down) which shows a lovely picture of Henry VII's chapel and also Nelson's stall plate behind his stall that Mark mentions above.

Mark,

There's nothing for it, you'll just have to go back again. I'm sure it will be there for a while! :)

Tony,

That might be one explanation, but it might of course be totally unrelated and purely coincidental.

Yes, but it's more fun to invent a conspiracy theory - and Obama was watching the wedding when he gave the order!

But it's a reasonable bet that there was a high level warning to be prepared for an imminent unspecified security alert...

Tony,

That's a reasonable assumption - but I wouldn't particularly want to speculate. I would agree with you though, that we can expect reprisals.
