That will be great if it really happens. Publication was originally expected early in 2008 and has been delayed on several occasions. Here's hoping!

You raised my hopes there, Stephen! But I've just had a look at Amazon and there's nothing there - they usually have a 'pre-order' facility for books with a firm publication date. So I think the wait goes on........

While I was checking that out, I came across another book 'Nelson, Hitler and Diana: studies in celebrity and trauma.'
Just out of curiosity, I ordered it. Here's what the blurb says:

Clinical psychologist Richard Ryder approaches three iconic celebrities - Horatio Nelson, Adolph Hitler, and Diana Princess of Wales - as though they were his patients and presents a short psycho-biography of each. Beneath their obvious differences he finds striking similarities in their backgrounds and early experience, especially being deprived of their mothers' love. In a short Epilogue the author asks what lessons might be learned for the future from these three famous figures of the past.

It might be a load of ridiculous psychobabble - or it might throw up some interesting insights. The loss of a parent is a traumatic event for any child and can have far-reaching consequences. I was interested to read in Jeremy Paxman's book 'The Political Animal' that 50% of Prime Ministers had lost one or both parents before adulthood. That might be the root of their (and Nelson's) vanity and need for recognition.

Waterstones still has publication date, 1/9/11, but no dust jacket. We live in hope!

Information that I have had from the publisher is that Sugden's volume 2 had gone onto the 'no date list', but has now come off that and has been given a publication date of 5 July 2012.

At least that gives him time to pick up some more of the fabulous information to be found in this forum

I'm fine, thanks Steven, I hope you are too. But life seems more hectic each year! I would line up plenty more books if I were you, in case that date slips again!

Well! After all the delays and disappointments, John Sugden's long-awaited Volume II now has a title: 'Nelson: the Sword of Albion' and a publication date, 6 September 2012.

This could be it, folks!

Well, the publication date has only been put back two months during the last three months, so on that basis I reckon the final publication date will be no later than May 2014...

But haven't I seen that cover somewhere before?

John Sugden tells me he now expects his book to appear in the middle of next year. The reason for the delay seems to be connected with economics of publishing at this time. I did not press him on this, but mentioned that his fans were becoming increasingly desperate!
