Hello everyone,
Hope you are all keeping well in these strange, troubled times!
With the spare time that has been thrust upon me I have been reading a freshly released book called ' Nelson's State Funeral 1806, how to bury a national hero' written by Susan Amos & Louis Roeder.

The planned book launch at the Trafalgar Tavern, Greenwich, was cancelled due to the government lockdown. The book release has therefore remained very low key. I am lucky enough to know Both Susan & Louis personally, so received my pre-ordered copy.
It is a fantastic read!

Dr John Sugden's blurb from the back cover perfectly describes the book:

"Is there anything left to say about Lord Nelson?
Surprisingly, there is. Innumerable books have
traced the Admiral's career to his heroic death at
Trafalgar, but here is the first full account of what
happened afterwards. Amos & Roeder's
Admirably illustrated volume, full of fascinating
but forgotten facts about the most lavish
state funeral in modern British history, fills
a genuine gap in our knowledge. This is a
must for Nelson aficionados and anyone who
shares our national love of pageantry and
commemoration."

Further details of the book are available by contacting Louis Roeder at:

Sounds an interesting book. Relatively expensive though at £35.

I was satisfied with the £35 asking price. Limited edition, private publications tend to be a bit more expensive.
This book really delivers on content and quality. It merits its place on my bookshelf, a very versatile book, a great read and a superb reference book. The depth of research really shines through and is wonderfully complimented with 120 illustrations and 30 colour plates (many of which are extremely scarce!)
The book is presented in hardback format with a very inviting dust jacket design. The text is very easy to follow and well integrated with the illustrations. All is laid down on extremely good quality cream paper.
As I mentioned I was very happy to pay the £35.

Nelson was the best British Admiral ever. Too bad he died too soon at the battle of Trafalgar. Could be argued that it was better for the French to lose the battle and kill Nelson than the other way around. The asking price of $35 is quite reasonable.

Many thanks for your posts, everyone.

On the 200th Anniversary of Nelson's funeral, there was a comemmorative service in St Paul's to which I travelled up on a day return train ticket from my then home in Somerset to attend. It was a truly magnificent occasion.

There is a CD - obtainable from Amazon for about £10 - of the music played at the funeral ceremony in January 1806.
