Not our period I know, but I thought members might like to know of this, from the BBC website:

I remember sailing near the spot several years ago and the ship's captain, ex RN, held a minute's silence on board.

As a former diver myself, I spent seven weeks diving the wrecks in Scapa Flow and though the Royal Oak was or is declared a war grave we were allowed to dive on HMS Vanguard again a War grave.
Still remember the oil slick being released from the wreck of the Royal Oak and the incredibly atmospheric cemetery at Lyness, where crew members from both ships rest in peace.

Sorry Anna,
Slightly off topic on this one, but given the events of 70 years ago, this interesting site will bring one down to earth..

No apologies, Stephen.

I am very relaxed about the occasional 'out of period' post or thread with a naval connection - all part of the rich pattern of the Royal Navy's history!

I think its wonderful that this ship and her company have been remembered and hopefully continue to do so.
