If one is trying to trace their Ancestors through this thread, may find the current Podcast on the National Archives web site titled, Tracing Ancestors in Nelson's Navy, available since Monday, 8th February 2010, very interesting.

:)

Does the podcast work now, Stephen? When I tried it a few days ago, the file was truncated after the first few minutes. The problem was definitely at their end, and I reported it via their contact form, but haven't had any feedback to say it was fixed.

Tony,
Sat down to listen to it last evening and seem'd to be working with no problems, even from this distance, despite a bottle of wine from Sicily, in fact near Nelson's Ducy, Bronte.

Cheers.

You are right, Stephen, it does work fine now, and was very interesting - even without a bottle of wine! In fact it is absolutely essential listening for anybody embarking on tracing their ancestors in Nelson's navy.
