Members of the Nelson Society can now stay at the Naval Club when visiting London. The Club is centrally situated in Mayfair and offers accommodation at much lower rates than hotels in the capital. Worth the £25 membership fee for the Nelson Society!

Morning Anna,

Intend going for a drink or two when next in London.

I am a member of The Royal Over-Seas League, http://www.rosl.org.uk which I find more than useful as a club membership.

Well, I shan't be going to London for the big day. I shall be with my friend Jane with a bottle of champagne in front of the telly. The view is better and you don't run the risk of getting wet. Jane says she's a republican but the lure of the Frock Watch has suppressed all such sentiments!

I suppose on this website we should be speculating what the groom will be wearing. RAF uniform seems most likely as that is the service he's with at the moment but don't the Royal males opt for naval uniform at weddings in tribute to the Senior Service? I don't know.

I shan't be going either – actually wild horses wouldn't drag me there. Not that I'm against Royal events like this, far from it, but I hate crowds at the best of times. It's not as if you'd see that much either, so watching it on the box (courtesy of Swedish television) is far better - and I think that I could get by without the 'atmosphere'. We'll probably be going to my mother-in-law's. I shall also be looking out for a friend of mine who is a steward in the Abbey and who will be 'officiating' on the day.

Yes, I would imagine that Prince William will be in RAF uniform, but we'll just have to see. The fact that Royal males 'opt' for naval uniform, is surely because they are serving or have served in the RN, which is a Royal tradition.

Well, if you are not going, I'm sure you will instead be availing yourselves of one of those fine porcelain pieces labelled WC...

Actually, the manufacturers have been quite careful to label their porcelain wares CW, obviously aware of the unfortunate abbreviation formed by the reverse arrangement. Though have you seen the mugs rushed out by the Chinese showing the happy couple? The happy chap is actually Prince Harry! They're selling like hot cakes on ebay.

My goodness - giving a commoner precedence over a royal prince! How extraordinary! What is this country coming to? They'll be knighting footballers next...

Thanks for the heads up, Tony - I was just about to buy one! (WC, CW, its all the same to me. ) Actually, I think perhaps the reasoning was that the lady comes first, hence CW!

As for the Chinese mugs, perhaps they know something we don't!

I was lucky enough to have known the great Tom Pocock through The Chelsea Arts Club.

For those not going to The Wedding, here's a sneak preview from the rehearsal (moved to separate 'off topic' topic): viewtopic.php?f=2&t=1142

Wow! Thanks Tony! I just might change my mind about not coming!
I always though the Royals were versatile, but how did they manage to get them to do that at short notice - or some of them to even do that!

I hope there will be thoughts/prayers for Prince Willliam’s mother. I am sure she will be dearly missed that day.

Hi Sylvia,

Everyone (or at least a sizeable number of us) hope that it will be a memorable and fun day. I am sure it will be, but of course it will have it's more serious moments – such as the actual wedding service in the Abbey. I think that Diana will be in the thoughts of many, whether in prayer or not and I would imagine William himself will be thinking of her too in the odd moment.

Will you watching the Wedding on Dutch television? If you are I'm sure you will enjoy it!
