Nelson & His World

My dad walked into a saleroom in Bristol the other day to view a sale which was in actually in full swing! Just being sold was a musket from the Victory which he saw being sold for £3000 on 23 March. I asked him why he didn't buy it, of course! But are these quite common? Do anyone know of others that have come up for sale?

I would imagine there are a few of these 'sea service' muskets around, but is there an actual note of provenance which states that if came from the Victory? If so it may, or may not, influence the price – after all an old musket is still an old musket!

Sorry - I tried to insert the link to the website but the sale was Dreweatt Neate in Bristol and it was on 23rd March. The 'butt-cap' of the musket is engraved with H.M.S Victory. The item is lot 57, medals and militaria if you want to view it on the web - there is also a photo. Its estimate was £2000 but it made £1000 more than this. The website is dfna.com.
