A new free exhibition has opened at Portsmouth Dockyard which looks at the past restoration and current conservation of the great ship. Paid a visit yesterday and found it very interesting.

Many thanks for posting that, P-C.

How lucky you are to live so near! The exhibition sounds fascinating and made me think how sophisticated the art of display and information has become in recent years, and how skilled in making the complex accessible and comprehensible.

As a matter of interest, is that wonderful Trafalgar sail still on view in the sail loft? I have the feeling that it was a temporary exhibition, but might be wrong.

Yes the sail is still on show. I also visited that on the same day.

PC,

Do you know how long the exhibition is on for? The length of the refit perhaps, so that I might get a chance to see it! :)

Not sure, but that would mean a ten year display, but i did read somewhere that they planned to extend the 20th century part of the museum to coinincide with the 100th anniversary of the start of WWI and that part of the new Victory display which is in the old gift shop was earmarked for this extension.

While at the new display, i took a stroll towards the Victory and i spotted the fore and main top, stored in the main arena.

PC,

Complete with the Admiral's lantern, and 'non 1805' electrical wiring!

Thanks for the info re. the opening period. Hopefully it will be there for a while.
