Sorry Stephen,

It took me a little while to cotton onto this – not being a football fan! (or maybe it was all that Maltese sunshine! :D )

May the best team win – whoever that may be! I'm just pleased that this is taking place in Africa, where it may do some good!

I'm not a football fan, but I was at a party last night, where all the men were clustered round the TV set, offering advice to, and criticism of, the players. What a pity all the experts were in Somerset instead of on the pitch - we'd have won 14-nil. We should have learned by now that 'England Shouldn't Expect Too Much.'!

Stephen,

I think its very hard to avoid it anywhere! Lotta and I have just returned from Gothenburg and the festivities for the Saumarez plaque replacement (which went off very well by the way and of which I shall write more in a report - when I have recovered somewhat!) where the 'fever' has seemingly also taken hold!

We had an extra day there, Wednesday, and took it rather easier visiting a couple of museums , having an easy lunch, etc. Anyway, whilst having tea before travelling home, we kept hearing a lot of cheering and much roudiness from a bar across the street. We thought it must be students trying to spin out their recent graduation, but no, it turned out that it was from a group of Chilean football supporters who had apparently won their game - perhaps not surprisingly we didn't find out who the other team were (not that we are that interested!) :?

Ok, I've just looked up who the other team were, Honduras - just by way of completion you understand! They also won by 1–0, but that's enough of that!
