Dear Forum members,
I have done some reasonably extensive research on Captain John Perkins and I have written a fictional novel based on his exploits.

Perkins was the first black officer in the Royal Navy and served throughout the American Revolutionary wars, French Revolutionary wars and into the Napoleonic Wars. His story is both fascinating and inspiring.

I hope some day to have the novel published (I am currently learning that the publishing world is quite harsh). In the meantime, I am looking for like minded people who might be willing to review the book and let me know what they think. Should you feel that you have time enough, and if you are interested, please let me know. I would be exceptionally grateful for any advice, assistance or even criticism.

Many thanks in advance,

Ian

Ian:

if you can hang on for a little while, I'd be glad to look at your book and offer constructive criticism. I'm a little tied up at the moment as my husband is recovering from surgery after a serious accident, but once he needs less attention I'd be glad to read your work. I have published some fiction (not a novel, I'm afraid, just short stories, articles and poems) and my degree was in English. I am glad you are realistic about the current difficulties of getting published, but it does no harm to aim high and hope for the best. Actually, there is a huge resurgence of popularity at the moment in historical fiction based on real lives. It's a genre that's been in the doldrums for a couple of decades so this sudden turnaround is maybe your opportunity.

More than happy to wait as long as you need.

I wish you and your husband the best and hope his recovery is swift.

All the best,
Ian
