And here is an update form the 1805 Club Sectretary on St James, Piccadilly, where Jonas Rose was buried:
Quote:
I looked more closely at the church and phoned their archivist. She confirmed what I thought, that there are no gravestones left following heavy bombing in the blitz when the church was extensively damaged and lost its roof. I walked round the garden adjoining the church to check this for myself. It's a haunt of dropouts etc, and there's a market on most days. The monumental inscriptions inside the church are all listed on their website, but no Jonas Rose. So at least we can satisfy ourselves that we've done all we can on this one.

St Andrew's, Banwell is just down the road from us. Would you like me to poke around the churchyard for a grave?

When Leonora Birchall married George Emery, he was living at Grange House, Banwell, so that may be taking us away from Captain Birchall himself. But you never know, they might have been neighbours while Birchall was alive, so if it is literally just down the road...

Further to previous public and private messages, I have been asked by Randy Mafit to pass on the 1805 Club's appreciation to Mark, Stephen & co for all the efforts here. As I suggested previously, Randy and Dana Mafit, co-editors of the Kedge Anchor, did get to Jonas Rose's burial record first, and they already have much on William Birchall which I will pass on to those here by email in the hope that it may provide some further clue to work on. Most of the genealogical stuff is here on the thread already, and their focus is now his parents' names, his place/date of birth and place/date to join RN. Randy keeps tabs on this thread, so you can be sure anything posted here will get to the right place.

One thought I had was whether he took the sea fencibles job at Chester because he was one of the Cheshire/Lancashire Birchalls - of which there are lots! I think Mark commented on that way back.

I see that Admiral Arthur Phillip, First Governor of New South Wales (Death 1814) is buried in the church. Some interesting history I noticed connected with the church and quite a number of memorials.

Extracted Marriage from IGI Records.

William Birchall
Leonora Bingham
12/01/1815
Melcome-Horsey, Dorset

Also from the records is a submitted entry

Leonora Bingham, born 1780, Melcombe-Horsey, Dorset, Died 1844
Parents Richard Bingham and Elizabeth E Ridout.
Married 1815 Captain W. Birchall, born 1776, Died 1817.

The only William Birchall that I have been able to find born in 1776 is

Birth, 6th November 1776
Christening, 24th November 1776, St Peter's, Church Street, Liverpool, Lancashire, England
Father Henry Birchall.

I found two marriages of Henry Birchall.

9th July 1775 at Walton on the Hill, Lancashire, England.
Henry Birchall to Elizabeth Sharrocks

and then

9th August 1778 at St Pauls, Liverpool, Lancashire, England.
Henry Birchall to Mary Anson

What is your source for William being born in 1776?
