Stephen,

Well, maybe it was me that had the aircraft carrier wrong!

Hi Kester,
May I say welcome back on board and pleased to hear that you enjoyed your Malta experience.
As you probably noticed at Ball’s monument that there was nothing to indicate who he was &c, unless the plaque had been unceremoniously uprooted by the local kids who, on occasions, tend to run a trifle wild among the shrubs and trees, although I think it unlikely!

Hi Ed,

We spent a little time in the Lower Barrakka Gardens and took a few photographs – perhaps I'll post one or two! I thought the monument very attractive, set in the beautiful small garden. You are right, there are no indications as to what you are looking at or who it is supposed to commemmorate (or at least I never noticed anything). Something that should be rectified, as I would imagine that even some of the locals may not know what it is.

The visitors appeared pretty orderly, a least when we were there and I believe the gardens are locked at night, so I'm not sure that vandalism is the culprit.

Today is the 201st anniversary of Alexander Ball's death. Seems only months ago attending the 200th at his memorial in Valletta.
