Tony:
My copy of 'Naval Wives and Mistresses' arrived this morning and there are indeed several references to William Wilkinson, Master of the Minotaur, including this one dated 8 July 1807:
'I dined with Captain Mansfield who drank your health - you may be sure I very politely drank the health of his family in return for his civility'.
I can let you have transcripts if you like.
This book is a treasure of information and has some interesting engravings of common seamen as well as officers, some of them quite amusing, such as the one of a sailor with his buxom ladyfriend on his arm approaching a lodging house with the sign: 'Lodging House for Single Men and their Wives'.
