We tend to think of scurvy as a disease of the past, (though 'deficiency' would be a better word since it's remedied by proper diet rather than medication). However, a paediatrician friend of ours tells us that doctors are seeing more and more cases of scurvy among children who are subsisting on junk food and fizzy drinks.
Here's a reminder too of a more recent remedy used in the Royal Navy: lime powder.
