It's very strange that the Shipping Forecast, broadcast by the BBC for mariners around Britain's coast, seems to have a strong hold on the imagination of even the most lubbery of landlubbers. Who hasn't drifted off to sleep, after 'Book at Bedtime', to the hypnotic language of the shipping forecast on a windy night, with the rain lashing against the window.......?

Poems have been written about it (including by me!) and now, a composer Cecilia McDowell, has set it to music. It is also fitting that a Portsmouth choir are singing the piece.

Anna,

I don't actually find that very strange at all. There is one over here in Sweden – but it's not quite the same! :( (Yes, I know it's in Swedish!)
