Is that good or not? I think it would be a bit much for me!

Over here in Sweden, it's 16° at the moment with overcast sky and rain threatened. You couldn't shove some of your hot weather up here could you? Even if it gets to the sublime heights 20° we'd be grateful!

Actually, I can imagine tar dripping from the rigging on whatever, or whoever, was below; sticky deck seams; drying out timbers, etc. – and the crew were probably on rationed water. If they were in Valletta, they'd very likely have awnings rigged and in the evenings the officers would be downing pink gins (or the equivalent), once they'd rid the island of the French of course!
