I hope we will all raise a glass to His Lordship and his gallant band on this memorable day!

Apologies for my rare appearances on the board of late. I have a lot of pressures at the moment, but am going away for a few days for some R&R. In the meantime, please keep the board lively and give a warm welcome to new members.

Certainly will be raising a glass! And in remembrance of the bravery and sacrifice on both sides.

Yay! Best day of the year for me! R.I.P Nelson. I hope his memory continues to influence and inspire people for many generartions- just like it has for the last two centuries! And R.I.P thousands of sailors/marines who died this day 206 years ago for Britain and for their own country! :D

Rae-rae,

Well said, and a welcome to the forum from me.

You reminded me that the original toast was, I believe, to 'Nelson, and the men who died with him.' This was later changed to the 'Immortal Memory' (very likely by the Victorians!), but the original was revived I think in 2005, and is I hope the one still used. I am sure Nelson would have approved!

Hi Kester!

Thank you very much for the nice welcome! :D It's great to finally be able to talk to people about Nelson and his navy cos I don't really know anybody else with the same interest. :(
Hope everybody has had a good Trafalgar Day! I did because my school's just broken up for half-term!

Rae-rae,

As you would imagine, all of us here have the same interest as you do, so you will find a good 'home' here. There are actually quite a few people with an interest in Nelson, it might just seem as though there aren't any!

Your obviously young, so perhaps you can tell us how you acquired your interest in Nelson? I think mine came from a school visit to Portsmouth to see the Victory, when I was twelve - some little while ago now! From that developed an interest in Nelson and maritime history, and of course I have seen Victory several times since then. I am now also a member of both the Nelson Society and the 1805 Club, both a great source of information, and a meeting place for poeple with a similar interest.

Raerae,

Scrub the last paragraph, I see you already have under introductions!

Trafalgar Day was marked on board the Victory this year as usual - or rather, as usual as possible under the circumstances:
