May I wish all forum members and visitors a very happy Christmas and a peaceful new year.
I'm sorry I can't devote as much time as I'd like to the forum because of family pressures but I hope we'll continue to sail along.
We shall be having 'The Roast Beef of Old England' rather than turkey for our Christmas dinner (Welsh Black, actually). This was the tradition long before the turkey darkened our shores.
It is often noted that captains and officers aboard ships of the Georgian navy were played into dinner to the tune of 'The Roast Beef of Old England'
Here is a rendition - and note that the song is not only a celebration of roast beef but a song of despair about the country going to the dogs. Nothing changes! Enjoy your Christmas anyway!
