The Eastern Daily Press is running a poll, asking if readers agrees that Nelson's column should be toppled.
Quote:
Writer and broadcaster Afua Hirsch argues in The Guardian that the Norfolk-born hero Admiral Horatio Nelson was a “white supremacist” who “vigorously defended” slavery.

Here we go again! Just read through the excellent discussion on this topic submitted through this forum in 2008/2009. As I am in the throes of helping draft The Nelson Society response to the current debate it has been very helpful. It just seems a pity we have to go through the same pointless debate every time some enthusiastic young journalist thinks they have come up with a new idea. If this latest writer in The Guardian had the vaguest knowledge of Nelson (or of the fact that we've been through all this before), rather than wasting her time she could have written about something of interest instead.
