Another serendipitous discovery while Googling something else: Admiral Smyth, author of the 'Sailor's Word Book', and other naval-related works, was the grandfather of Lord Baden-Powell, the founder of the scout movement.

Did everyone know this except me?

I was amused to see that his (the Admiral's) wife's mother, who had been born in Naples, 'washed her hair when it was touched by the adulterer Nelson when she was a child.' (Who told her?)

Anna,

No, I didn't – and I was a member of the Scout Movement for some years!
