It's the "same old. same old" - i.e. an auction estimate seeming to be too low??!!

I am sure that a NGSM with 4 clasps coming up for auction must be a pretty rare event.

As usual it will be interesting to see what price it ultimately realises.

The estimate seems extremely low, if the info. in the link below is anything to go by. Scroll down for the hammer price. I know nothing of medals or all the variations in price/value within the various categories, so maybe the NGSM in this link is not really comparable with the one above? Anyhow, it makes interesting reading.

More and more auction houses seem to be using low estimates as a 'lure' to potential buyers.

The medal (lot 122) made £4600 in the sale on 23 July.

I hadn't realised prior to the sale that there were 33 (at least) NGSM's in Lee Bishop's collection and therefore sold in this auction.

It really makes you wonder what collections there may be out there that we don't know about.

Prices for these ones range from £950 to £18000.

I know it can never happen but wouldn't it be amazing to know how many of the NGSM's originally awarded are out there SOMEWHERE!!

P.S. Price realised for Davies' medal still seems quite reasonable as there were only 88 medals awarded with 4 bars.
