I couldn't agree more, great stuff! This just shows that all young people shouldn't be 'tarred with the same brush', as some older people tend to do with the younger generation. One tends to wish there were were more like him, although in my experience there are quite a few, thank goodness!
To those people who have complained that he shouldn't have done it as he is a minor, and have also questioned his competence: a) Didn't you want to do something like this when you were young, but were perhaps prevented? b) He was taught to sail by his father, who had been around boats all his life, so had a good teacher. c) He had done a transatlantic in 2007. d) He would have known all the risks involved and very likely would have prepared as much as he could for them. e) He was raising money for a very good cause, the Tall Ships Youth Trust (the Sail Training Association when I sailed with them).
Surely, isn't there also the fact that sailing is fundamentally a young persons activity (just how old were the topmen of Nelson's day?) and some things are just that bit more exciting if there is an element of risk!
Nelson would have been proud!
