I suppose I knew these facts in isolation but for some reason had never associated them before.

Quote:
Details of the 3 major protagonists at the Battle of Trafalgar.

Admiral Lord Nelson - Died 21st October 1805

Admiral Gravina - Died 9th March 1806

Admiral Villeneuve - Died 22nd April 1806

So just 6 months after the battle all 3 were dead.

And none of them died a natural death: Nelson at Trafalgar, Villeneuve by his own hand (or another's) and Gravina as a result of wounds sustained in battle.

.
I believe that the Spanish treated their Trafalgar veterans as heroes.

Gravina is buried in the Panteon de Marinos Ilustres, San Fernando, Cadiz.

This is his memorial:

The location of Villeneuve's grave has been lost.
