I heard about this on BBC Radio Norfolk.

See the solstice from Nelson's Monument in Great Yarmouth.

Any bidders?

A bit too far away for me. Bidding already seems quite brisk and the auction ends 9am Friday. See here: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll? ... %26otn%3D1

All proceeds go to the Nelson Museum.

I am a bit surprised by the statement 'You will be the first to see the beautiful sunrise'. What do they know about the weather that I don't?

By the way, in the summer here in the UK (which is in the northern hemisphere, above the Tropic of Cancer!) why does the sun rise a lot north of east?

Interesting question, Tony. Our main lounge window and kitchen face due east and it is amazing to me just how far the sun does track north at the solstice.

Not the answer you are looking for, I know, but it is something that I have watched with amazement over the 40 or so years we have been living here.

Thanks for the info, Mil. Let's hope it's a cloudless morning!
