Having enjoyed Roger Knight's 'Pursuit of Victory' when it first appeared in hardback, I breezed into a bookshop today, and speedily bought the paperback as a present.
When I got home, I discovered that someone at Penguin had bizarrely decided to exclude from the paperback edition ALL THE SOURCE NOTES. The other appendices that appeared in the hardback - the chronology of Nelson's life etc. are there but NOT these crucial references.
WHY have they done this? WHY have they included all the other addenda but not these essential references?
The hardback was plagued by typos and now the paperback is weirdly truncated in a way that defies common sense.
If you are thinking of buying this paperback edition - don't.
