I'm sure many here will not need reminding that today 1st August is of course the Anniversary of the Battle of the Nile.

I was hoping to see some members of the Nelson Society mark the occasion at the site of the Nile Clumps but for some reason they cancelled.

Whilst on the subject; hopefully the “Alexander Clump” will be restored this year.

May be given the large area of its explosion how about planting a very large clump of the flagship, L'Orient as it was one of the largest ships of its time.

Haven't you heard about the cutbacks apart from the fact that it would mean digging up the A303!

Stephen,

Thanks for reminding us, both about the battle (I had remembered) and the Nile Clumps! Apart from a large void in the A303 however, wouldn't most of the L'Orient 'clump' have to be suspended, er, 'up in th air' somehow?

Having never visited this now becoming very topical site, I can only think if there is a void on this A303, then that must be the L'Orient site, watch out for the looted Knights of St John Treasure, from Malta!
