The Royal Naval Air Service has a new portrait of Nelson in its wardroom at Culdrose. Unfortunately, I can't locate an image. This is a pity as I find Nelson portraiture an endlessly fascinating topic and one that is never complete: old, forgotten images resurface, and new ones are constantly created. Does any other figure in British history exert such an influence/inspiration on artists?

Anna, Nelson's arch enemy Napoleon springs to mind to be honest, but the Two Hundreth Anniversary of the Battle of Waterloo is fast approaching which could prove interesting. A few unseen portaraits of the Duke of Wellington might spring some surprises.

Stephen.
