Amazon currently gives 7 October 2010 as the publication date of the second volume of John Sugden's biography of Nelson. You can sign up to be notified as soon as it becomes available.

If anyone has not read Volume 1, 'A Dream of Glory', I urge you to do so. It is unwise to speak of 'definitive' biographies, but this, it is widely agreed, is one of the 'greats'.

Look forward to its publication at last! Always rated the Oman book though. Was beginning to think that like David Starkey's, Elizabeth which I have always thought about, what happened to the second volume covering the most exciting parts of her life? and that Sugdens first volume on Nelson was to be only one part on the same level, the best is yet to come. :D :D :D

Hooray! Or should that be, Huzza! for volume 2 of Sugden. Like others on this forum, I can hardly wait to read what undoubtedly will be a real treat.

I am also hoping against hope that another favourite writer will complete a promised book - Liza Picard. If you have not read any of her fantastic books about the minutiae of social life at various periods in London's history, you have missed out on a wonderful experience. She has covered Restoration London, Elizabethan London, Dr Johnson's London and Victorian London from 1840-1870 as the latter is such a huge subject. A second volume is hoped for covering the later part of Victoria's reign, but the author is 83 and the research for such a book is extensive. Dr Johnson's London covers 1740-1770 and thus throws light on some aspects of the period of our interest. Highly recommended reading.

Gosh Margaret we must be thinking on the same wave length today. Having just viewed the Waterstones web site, I see that it is due out in 294 days time making it the 1st September 2011.
I see in between the two Nelson books he has published Sir Francis Drake, 25/05/2006.

Hope that helps,

Stephen :)
