Anyone who was alive and kicking in the early 60's will remember the hundreds and hundreds of aspiring pop groups there were at the time - and the wacky names and gimmicks that some of them came up with.

Well earlier this week I saw an advert for a Birmingham night club from 1964 - and the entertainment that night was Cliff Nelson and the Trafalgers. (yes, spelt exactly like that!)

Reminds me somewhat of Johnny Kidd and the Pirates - who of course all dressed up in pirate outfits.

I wonder if CN and the T's wore period costumes plus the obligatory eye patches! :D

I can only assume they came and went fairly quickly. Such a shame that they didn't end up head to head with the Beatles - with Number 1 records across the globe.

I wonder if they included in their repertoire some of the hits of 1964? Diana Renay was 58th in the charts with her album 'Navy Blue' which, as well as 'Navy Blue', included 'Kiss me, Sailor' and 'Bell Bottom Trousers'!

. . . . and of course a version of "Sailor" by Petula Clark.

Crikey - I can remember that wafting round our house when I was a kid.

2-way Family Favourites on the radio at Sunday lunchtime. :D

Happy times!! :D
