Has anyone any idea when this Nelson and His Band of Brothers graphic was first published.
The caption under the drawing of Nelson states “NELSON about 1798, from a drawing made at Naples by C. Grigńon”
This particular one was published on page 350 of the October 21st, 1897 edition of the Navy and Army Illustrated.
All I know is that the picture of the captains are from engravings after Robert Smirke RA, 1752-1845
The same engravings were used on another commemorative print that Ludovic Kennedy
used on the dust sheet of his 1951 book ‘Nelson’s Band of Brothers’

I’m afraid I don’t have any information on the graphic from the ‘Navy and Army Illustrated’, but the cover of Ludovic Kennedy’s ‘Nelson’s Band of Brothers’ was adapted from the engraving ‘Victors of the Nile’ published in 1803 by Robert Bowyer, designed by Robert Smirke and engraved by William Bromley, with the portrait of Nelson after William Satchwell Leney. This was published as part of a set of four engravings commemorating the Glorious 1st of June, St Vincent, Camperdown and the Nile. See http://www.npg.org.uk/collections/searc ... =sit&rNo=1
and

The Grignon sketch was drawn in February 1799 at Palermo (but apparently sometimes incorrectly labelled Naples 1797), and seems to have been reproduced as a lithograph after it was acquired by the United Services Club. A lithograph was engraved by Charles Couzens, printed by M & N Hanhart and published by Henry Brooks. See here: http://www.nmm.ac.uk/collections/prints ... ID=PAD3760

I wonder whether the ‘Navy and Army Illustrated’ assembled their own composite illustration from the two?

Thanks for that informative reply Tony, your last comment seems quite feasible. I shall now go back through the chain of personal links to the source--an ex sub-mariner--to see if there is any other related info as he has one or many bound volumes of the N&A Illustrated.
In the meantime I shall wait to see if anyone has seen a copy of this particular graphic.
Oh, and am glad to see that you managed to disentangle yourself from the rigging
