This is just to let members know that I'm going to France for a week tomorrow so will not be able to reply to posts or private messages. We have had a spate of registrations in recent days so please give a warm welcome in my absence to any new posters.

I hope to be home in time for the second series of 'Garrow's Law', the series on the 18th century lawyer, William Garrow, that we have discussed on another thread. The first episode will be shown on 14 November on BBC1. The series will contain episodes on the slave trade and also on the mistreatment of injured sailors in naval campaigns so there should be much to interest members of this website - apart from the excellence of the drama as a whole.

The DVD of series 1 can be bought from Amazon. I believe series 2 also is already available.

No, this was for relaxation only! The idea was to have some bracing country walks and a 'menu gastronomique' or two, though we had fewer of the former and more of the latter than we planned!

I must say the sight of Victory as we sailed out of Portsmouth was as uplifting as ever.

As a sideline, November 11th, Armistice Day, is a Bank Holiday in France. There has been much discussion about additional Bank Holidays in the UK, and Trafalgar Day has been suggested. That would please me; but I think a holiday on Armistice Day would be even more fitting.
