Nelson & His World

This of course is a saga which will run and run.

The latest idea seems to be that they will not move the statue - but will "design it out" of the former Trafalgar (now Heroes') Square.

I suggest, since they don't appear to want or appreciate it, that they transfer it to one of the other Caribbean islands, either:

a) Nelson's Dockyard, Antigua.

b) the Montpelier Estate, Nevis.

I'm sure either would welcome it with open arms, or should that be arm. But then I suppose there'll be a squabble about who's going to pay for it!

It does seem ridiculous that they would have the statue under sufferance doesn't it. Albeit I believe a lot of Barbadians actually have a great affection for the statue. I have never been to Bridgetown but I believe the statue is at quite a focal point in the town and a popular meeting place etc. etc.

If it ever HAS to move I will add 2 more potential locations:

1. My front garden.

2. The Bull Ring, Birmingham next to it's "twin" - i.e. the other Nelson statue by Richard Westmacott. (I will have to check out the dimensions some time. I know they are a similar size - but I wonder if they would be an exact match)
